SurFunction: Creating nanostructures economically with fiber lasers

Anzeige Industrial plasma surface technology | Created by SP

The Elipsys modular laser interference system from SurFunction enables the creation of functional, cost-effective and environmentally friendly surface systems modeled on nature.

SurFunction has further developed the Elipsys platform. Thanks to the integration of cost-effective fiber laser technology, a new generation of high-precision micro- and nanostructures can now be produced quickly, efficiently, scalably and inline-capable for the first time. System and operating costs are reduced, opening up new areas of application for users in industrial practice, for example in medical technology, aviation transportation or the energy sector.

High flexibility in industrial production

The integration of fiber laser technologies now also makes it possible to use dynamic and robot-supported DLIP systems - ideal for large-scale applications, automated manufacturing environments and flexible production processes. The system can be used for the generation of friction-optimized structures through to surface pre-treatment. Existing DLIP systems can be improved with Elipsys and at the same time integrated more effectively into existing production lines.

Synergies through complementary technologies

In addition, DLIP structures can now also be combined with conventional or alternative surface finishes. This results in hybrid solutions, for example in the form of structured layers, selective adhesion modulation or smart surfaces

Industrial application diversity

The new surface solutions based on the Elipsys platform can be used for the following applications:

  • Energy efficiency and friction optimization, for example in drive trains, pumps or power generation systems
  • Wear reduction in tools and sliding pairings
  • Biocompatible textures, for example for implants, catheters and other medical devices
  • PFAS-free non-stick structures for packaging, household products and technical applications
  • Antibacterial and hydrophobic surfaces for hygiene products, electronics applications or vehicle interiors, among others
  • Reflection-reducing or adhesion-controlling textures in electronics, optics or printing technology

Global implementation prepared

SurFunction has patented the Elipsys platform and has already successfully validated it in industrial practice. Cooperation talks - for example with established fiber laser manufacturers - are currently being held and further pilot applications are being prepared.

The future of sustainable surfaces

Elipsys provides users with a platform technology that can transform today's industrial surface treatment: from chemical to physical, from additive to structural, from static to smart. SurFunction thus makes a contribution to the ecological design of future industrial value creation.
