When components are manufactured and leave the machine, the manufacturing process is often far from complete. Shape, consistency and volume are among the basics of plastics and metal processing, but surfaces also need to be treated to ensure they meet the requirements of the product. Jobs in surface engineering deal roughly with two techniques: Coating workpieces and changing the property of the material. The technique of coating does not require any extraordinary explanation: painting, powder coating, hot dipping, galvanizing and tinning are part of the everyday work here. Changing the properties of materials is sometimes a bit more complicated: This refers, for example, to hardening, hardening, magnetizing or irradiating surfaces. Current job offers from companies show that a completed technical education as a master craftsman or technician is usually a prerequisite for jobs in the industry. A degree in engineering may also be considered as a qualification.
