The demand for durable solutions to protect metal products during transportation and storage is increasing worldwide. Two years ago, Antalis developed its own corrosion protection packaging concept and launched it on the market under the name Korus with the Korus Premio and Korus Excel product lines.
VCI molecules form a protective atmosphere
The solution is based on the VCI principle: a draught-proof, closed packaging is created in which VCI molecules (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors) form a protective atmosphere around the metal part so that water does not come into contact with the product. The solution is clean and dry and much more efficient than oils or greases. In addition, VCI substances are volatile and harmless if they comply with TRGS 615. It is even possible to open the packaging for a short time, for example at customs. The protective effect builds up again when the packaging is resealed. In addition, VCI papers and films are extremely recyclable (exception: PE-coated VCI papers).
Highest score achieved
In the certification by Volkswagen, all paper and film products received the highest score of 2.0 (on a scale of 2.0 to 3.0) - even the 50-micrometer films. This is special because at 50 microns there is a very high water vapor permeability, which places particularly high demands on the protective inhibitors. At the same time, the quantity of protective inhibitors to be introduced into the film is very limited at 50 my, so that the mechanical properties of the film are reduced.
Comprehensive test procedure
The VW Volkswagen/Audi test standard is also known as the PV 1210 climatic corrosion test cycle. This standard is based on a comprehensive test procedure for determining the corrosion resistance of car bodies, assemblies and components in the automotive industry. The test specimen is exposed to corrosion-relevant exposures (salt spray according to DIN 50021-SS, ambient climate according to DIN 50 014-23/50-2 and condensation water climate according to DIN 50 017-KK) over a longer period of time in a three-part repetition cycle and evaluated.
