The Dörken Group has acquired paint and coatings manufacturer J.W. Ostendorf (JWO) from Fidelium Partners. Both companies will continue to operate independently in their respective markets, combining their expertise in professional coatings, private-label products and contract manufacturing.

The Dörken Group, headquartered in Herdecke, Germany, has acquired J.W. Ostendorf GmbH & Co. KG, based in Coesfeld. Previous owner Fidelium Partners acquired JWO from Danish coatings manufacturer Hempel in 2024 through a corporate carve-out and subsequently developed the company's organisational, operational and strategic structures.

The acquisition expands Dörken's activities in the paints and coatings industry. Dörken contributes its research and development capabilities, established brands and position in the professional coatings segment, while JWO brings expertise in DIY products, retail and private-label brands, and contract manufacturing.

Production sites and market operations remain separate

The development and marketing of products for professional users, along with pigment paste production at the Competence Center, will remain at Dörken's Herdecke site. Architectural paint production will continue at JWO in Coesfeld. Both companies will serve their respective markets independently, maintaining separate legal entities, management teams and organisational structures.

JWO plans to expand its role as a production and logistics platform for other companies in the paints and coatings industry. Founded in 1948, the manufacturer operates a production facility in Coesfeld with an annual capacity exceeding 200 million litres.

Joint development in the paints and coatings industry

"Together, we can make targeted use of our respective strengths, accelerate innovation and deliver even greater added value to our customers," says Thorsten Koch, Member of the Executive Board of Ewald Dörken AG and CEO of Dörken Coatings.

The companies intend to leverage their complementary capabilities for further product development and strengthen their position in the European paints and coatings market.
