Dörken Coatings GmbH has taken another step toward industrial application with its PFAS-free coating systems. Volvo Car Corporation has added the relevant systems to its VCS 5737,41 specification, thereby approving them for use.
Several system combinations were approved, including variants with the Delta-Protekt KL 100 or Dörken Base 120 base coats in combination with a topcoat. In addition to the silver topcoat used as standard, a black version was also confirmed as an additional option.
PFAS-Free Coatings in the Automotive Industry
The development is driven by the growing regulatory debate surrounding per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS). In this context, alternatives that offer comparable technical properties without using this group of substances are becoming increasingly important.
Inclusion in an OEM specification is considered an important step toward industrial implementation, as it confirms suitability under defined technical requirements.
High Requirements for Black Topcoats
Approval of a black topcoat is technically demanding because, in addition to corrosion protection, defined friction coefficients and visual requirements must also be met. Corresponding systems must therefore reliably satisfy both functional and aesthetic criteria.
By adding these systems to the specification, Dörken is expanding its portfolio of PFAS-free coatings for automotive applications while also addressing requirements for sustainability and regulatory compliance.
