Covestro plans to open an automated laboratory for the optimization of coatings and adhesives formulations in the course of this year. In the future, formulations with binders and crosslinkers from Covestro for coatings and adhesives will be tested in the new laboratory. Such formulations usually consist of seven to 15 components, the combination of which determines the properties of the end product. Due to the large number of possible combinations, the company has been working with guide formulations up to now. The new laboratory will now enable extensive test series.
Tens of thousands of tests per year
The automated laboratory is able to run tens of thousands of tests around the clock every year and collect a large amount of structured data in the process. The collected data is analyzed using special algorithms and artificial intelligence to further improve formulations.
Material tests in different climates
In addition to the formulation of water- and solvent-based 1K and 2K systems, the automated laboratory also carries out a large number of material tests on the raw materials themselves, their formulations and applied films. The application can take place in different climates in order to simulate the use of the products under application conditions. The ongoing digitalization of laboratories throughout Covestro also enables samples to be easily forwarded to more specialized testing laboratories. Covestro experts will be on hand at the European Coatings Show from March 25 to 27 in Nuremberg to provide information about the new laboratory (Hall 4A, Stand 438)
