Covestro coating for reduced carbon footprint

A partially bio-based polyurethane dispersion complements the equipment used by the Sonnenwagen team at RWTH Aachen University.

Team Sonnenwagen from RWTH and FH Aachen University will once again be competing in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia in October with their self-designed solar racing car. The textile company Huafeng is providing them with sports shoes and shorts whose coating is made with partially bio-based PU dispersions from Covestro. In addition, the fabrics used are based on yarns made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) Cyclone from used plastic bottles.

The textile coating developed by Huafeng using Covestro's Impranil CQ DLS/1 PU helps reduce production-related emissions and is suitable for 3D effects thanks to its high layer thickness. For its outstanding mechanical properties, Huafeng's printing ink system also recently won the ISPO Best Product Award.
