Materials manufacturer Covestro today broke ground on two new facilities in Shanghai to meet growing demand for polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) and elastomers. These new facilities, which together represent a mid-double-digit million euro investment, will be located at Covestro's Shanghai site.
The new plant for PUDs and another line for polyester resins are scheduled for completion in 2024. PUDs are used in more environmentally friendly coatings and adhesives for a wide range of applications, for example in the automotive, construction, furniture, footwear and packaging industries. "With the new investment, we are even better positioned to serve the growing demand for more environmentally friendly coatings and adhesives around the world," said Zhong Xiaobin, senior vice president of Covestro's Coatings and Adhesives segment in Asia Pacific.
