Analyze CO2 in series coating with tool from BASF Coatings

With the GLASS tool, BASF Coatings offers a holistic analysis of the ecological footprint in the paint store. This meticulous analysis helps to make the PaintShop more environmentally friendly.

GLASS (Global Life Cycle Assessment of Automotive Surface Solutions ) from BASF Coatings calculates the environmental impact and costs incurred in the coating process - along the value chain from raw material extraction to pretreatment and clearcoat. Customers can thus optimize costs, performance and ecological footprint. The GLASS tool has been tested by an independent third party and meets the relevant requirements of DIN EN ISO 14040 and 14044.

Considering all components of the application process

The tool is based on an adapted life cycle analysis model that not only takes into account sub-aspects of the application process, but also allows the environmental impact of all key components in the process to be analyzed. Furthermore, region- and location-specific conditions such as climatic conditions or energy use are also included.

Helping customers to reduce CO2 emissions

"Once transparency has been established, we can provide our customers with targeted advice and develop solutions together. These can be CO2-reduced technologies at the beginning of the value chain or solutions that have a CO2-reducing effect," says Tim Banik, Lifecycle Assessment Expert at BASF Coatings and developer of GLASS. According to company information, GLASS will be available in the long term not only for series coating but also for other areas of application.
