ABB opens its fully automated and flexible robot factory in Kangqiao near Shanghai, China. The investment in the 67,000m2 production and research site totals $150 million (RMB 1.1 billion). At the factory, ABB will use its proprietary digital and automation technologies to produce next-generation robots - further expanding the company's market position in robotics and automation in China.
"Our automated and flexible factory is a key component of our 'In China, for China' strategy. More than ninety percent of the robotics solutions we sell in China are manufactured in this factory," said Sami Atiya, head of ABB's robotics and factory automation business. ABB expects the global robotics market to grow from $80 billion today to $130 billion by 2025. China is the world's largest robotics market, with 51 percent of the world's robotic equipment installed in China in 2021. For the first time, more than one million operational robots were in use in this country.
