Where can this lead? In George Lucas' Star Wars saga, the Galactic Republic finally collapses after a period of infirmity under the weight of endless debates, pointless votes and inability to act - with fatal consequences for the entire galaxy. In our reality, too, dysfunctional political decision-making processes can lead to irreversible developments in the medium and long term. Especially as both the EU and NATO can certainly be described as weakened and some players on the world stage are also working to weaken them further.
Even if we can certainly hope that an emperor is not about to take power, the developments I have just mentioned present us with very real problems in the here and now. The interview with Dr. Malte Zimmer on the new version of the BREF document puts it in a nutshell: an originally functional technical guideline is mutating into a regulatory tool for industrial production processes that overrides the need to validate specifications and measures.
The consequences are planned economy tendencies and a regulatory life of its own that has emancipated itself from any purpose. It is developments such as these that not only endanger the livelihood of companies, but also erode the industrial core of Europe. There is a lack of feedback, evidence and corrective mechanisms.
Distress that can lead to negligence
It is also clear that more and more regulation is exacerbating the dilemma of smaller companies in particular when it comes to setting their priorities. As a result, tasks that are actually important are sometimes neglected. But even such adversities are no reason to let the issue of occupational safety slide. Coating and process time savings are also on the agenda - for example by modernizing application technology and switching to electrostatics. The circular economy is also a topic in mo issue 5 - in the context of metal recycling and decoating (from page 26).
The current issue of mo also contains many other ideas for further operational development. Because without competitiveness, there is no future for manufacturing companies in any universe. As far as the political perspective is concerned, the only hope that remains is that those who are able to lead Europe into a successful future will prevail in the political arenas. It would be a shame if the good times in Europe were to become nothing more than a legend in the movies.
