The European Commission had envisaged that in future the lowest possible emission values for the respective industrial sector would have to be complied with. However, production plants within specific industries are rarely comparable, according to the ZVO. The proposal could therefore have acutely endangered the production and competitiveness of the entire European industry, according to the association.
The ZVO's commitment has now led to significant improvements to the COM proposal. The position adopted by the EP on July 11 now takes into account the diversity of companies and production processes in the surface sector. The ZVO will lobby in the trialogue negotiations between the EP and the Council to ensure that these improvements are included in the final decision. According to the current status, the negotiations are expected to be concluded in the fall of 2023.
