It was not only students who attended the lectures on applied electroplating technology at the TU Ilmenau. Many guest students from industry also came to refresh their knowledge of electroplating technology. The feedback from the students and guests was consistently positive. In particular, the high practical relevance of the numerous examples from the speakers' work was praised. For example, Dr Daniel Meyer, DGO, dealt with the functionalization of surfaces and the special features of the electroplating-compatible design of components in his lecture. He also addressed the challenge of substrate selection. Aga Franczak, ELSYCA, followed on directly from this with a lecture on the simulation of current density distribution as a function of component geometry.
Presentations from companies and research institutes
Further presentations were given by representatives of the companies and research institutes SurTec, Atotech, Helmut Fischer, Saxonia Galvanik, Qubus, ProWaTech AG and Fraunhofer IPA. They discussed substrate pre-treatment and post-treatment as well as various processes for electroplating and chemical coatings. Techniques such as rack, strip and barrel were explained by Dr. Martin Metzner, Fraunhofer IPA, and plastic electroplating by Andreas Baumbach, Saxonia Galvanik GmbH.
ZVO holds lecture on REACH
Quality testing and waste water treatment were also on the agenda. Another focus was the project planning of electroplating systems, which Christian Deyhle from Qubus Planung und Beratung Oberflächentechnik GmbH presented. Dr. Malte Matthias Zimmer, ZVO, concluded the event with a presentation on regulations such as REACH and the resulting future prospects for the electroplating industry.
