The ZVO comments on two draft laws from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The association sees positive signals in the laws on hydrogen acceleration and geothermal acceleration.

The availability of hydrogen for companies and consumers is still low. At the same time, hydrogen is becoming increasingly relevant as a process gas or energy source. The German government therefore presented its first legislative initiative to strengthen the hydrogen ramp-up in Germany at the beginning of July with the draft bill for a Hydrogen Acceleration Act.

Ramp-up of hydrogen-based energy sources urgently needed

As an energy and heat-intensive industry, electroplating and surface technology is particularly dependent on the availability of hydrogen as a substitute for natural gas. The ZVO sees the draft as an initial positive signal for the urgently needed ramp-up of alternative hydrogen-based energy sources.

Geothermal Acceleration Act offers an opportunity for decarbonization

The ZVO has also commented on the planned Geothermal Acceleration Act. The use of geothermal energy in Germany has been neglected for a long time, although it offers great energy potential for the decarbonization of the heat supply. The ZVO therefore welcomes the draft law and hopes that the final bill will be as SME-friendly as possible.
