The SKZ Plastics Center in Würzburg supports the plastics industry in developing new products based on current problems. "We focus on practical and application-oriented research and development. In this way, we build a bridge between basic research and direct industrial application," says Michael Heilig, Group Manager for Adhesive Bonding and Surface Technology at the SKZ. This exchange of knowledge is ideally based on reciprocity. Researchers benefit from insights into current challenges in industry, while companies can influence how innovations are designed.
Expert group celebrates anniversary
One example of such direct communication and regular exchange is the Adhesive Bonding and Surface Technology Expert Group. More than 50 companies from the bonding and surface treatment industry now belong to it. The industry committee assumes a steering function for the SKZ's research activities and meets in person once a year. On September 24, the expert group, which was once founded by the SKZ, celebrates its tenth anniversary.
Overview of projects and research ideas
Once again, participants will receive a concise overview of current projects and initial results as well as new research ideas. There will also be guest lectures from industry. "The input and regular feedback from the field are of immense value to us, and we look forward to many more projects with our partners and to interesting questions and developments - also in the next ten years," says Heilig.
