Surfunction GmbH from Saarbrücken received the award for the industrial realization of the so-called Direct Laser Interference Patterning (DLIP) technology within the ELIPSYS technology platform. The company took second place in the steel, metal service and surface technology category. The award was presented at Blechexpo 2025.
Jury praises precision, scalability and sustainability
The expert jury particularly praised the high precision in the structuring of metallic surfaces, the modular and scalable system concept and the energy-efficient process management. It also positively highlighted the use of AI-supported process monitoring for quality assurance and the economic efficiency achieved in industrial operation.
Laser structuring as a contribution to sustainable production
According to Dr. Dominik Britz, Managing Director of Surfunction, the award marks "the beginning of a new era of precise, economical and sustainable surface processing". The company develops DLIP technologies that can specifically adapt surface properties based on biological models - for example to reduce friction, control adhesion or antibacterial properties.
