DB maintains its entire ICE 4 fleet at its new plant in Cottbus. The plant is now being expanded to include two new workshops: Hall 1 will include maintenance and commissioning tracks as well as a painting track for individual wagons by 2026. Operations have been running in the smaller Hall 2 with two maintenance tracks since January 2024.
Automatic pre-grinding and coating
SLF Oberflächentechnik GmbH develops and builds blasting and painting systems as well as the appropriate conveyor technology for the industrial surface treatment of large components. DB has commissioned SLF to equip the painting track in Hall 1 with system technology. In future, individual wagons will be automatically pre-sanded in the SLF booths and recoated in the combined spraying and drying booths (KST booths) using painting robots. SLF is cooperating with the automation specialist Fanuc for this. The order is SLF Oberflächentechnik GmbH's largest single order to date.
Comfortable working on aerial work platforms
The cabins are equipped with lifting platforms designed for the respective work steps so that DB employees can comfortably reach all surfaces during manual work, such as preparation, painting and finishing activities. "In consultation with Deutsche Bahn AG and Fanuc Deutschland GmbH, we have developed an innovative system with a high degree of automation," says Jan den Hartog, Sales Engineer at SLF Oberflächentechnik GmbH.
