Dr. Werner Heuer from Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG opened the program of this year's grinding conference. Various specialist presentations on the topics of "Innovative grinding tools", "Sustainable cooling lubricant supply", "Modern machine technology" and "Efficient process design" invited participants to gather inspiration for their daily work. The organizers recorded a new record attendance of more than 200 specialists and managers from the grinding industry.
Grinding and cooling lubrication strategies
Other presentations included a systematic comparison between different grinding and cooling lubrication strategies for grinding with vitrified bonded grinding wheels, presented by Maximilian Glass (DR. Kaiser Diamantwerkzeuge GmbH & Co. KG). Hans-Jürgen Pelzers (Mitsubishi Electric Europe B. V.) shed light on the erosive dressing of metal-bonded grinding wheels, which produces advantageous grinding wheel topographies for the corresponding areas of application and thus enables more productive and sustainable processes.
Sustainable grinding wheel production
Dr. Gernot Kaltenhauser from Tyrolit - Schleifmittelwerke Swarovski AG und Co K.G. talked about the manufacturing processes for grinding tools. He explained which sustainability analyses can be reliably carried out by grinding wheel manufacturers and which levers can be used to ensure sustainable grinding wheel production. The presentation by Dr. Alexander Nashed (Saint Gobain Abrasives) focused on whether the grinding tools, which are manufactured in different ways, are substitutable with one another.
Skills shortage
The shortage of skilled workers was the subject of the panel discussion that conference chair Jannik Röttger held with the advisory board of the grinding conference.
