Sandwich panels are widely used due to their good insulating properties. A robust and load-bearing sandwich construction is achieved with high-performance adhesives. The adhesives from Ruderer guarantee maximum strength.

Ruderer offers aqueous systems such as dispersions, solvent-based contact adhesives and reactive 1- and 2-component adhesives for bonding sandwich panels. If the sandwich element has a load-bearing function, for example in truck bodies, foaming 1-component PU adhesives such as the technicoll 8324 PU adhesive are generally used. 1-component adhesives react with moisture from the environment, penetrate into the foam material of the core layer, fill the cavities and thus improve the strength of the entire sandwich. If the sandwich elements are made of water vapor-permeable materials, 1-component adhesives have also proven their worth. They are usually based on polyurethane (PUR). Contact adhesives have an immediate initial strength and can be used on vertical surfaces, for example.

2-component adhesives for impermeable materials

Reactive 2-component adhesives such as the high-performance adhesive technicoll 8301/8302 are more suitable for sandwich elements made of materials that are impermeable to water vapor. As it does not foam up, it can also be applied in a slightly thicker layer. 2-component adhesives are also used in the bodies of commercial vehicles. Their vibration-damping effect and ability to equalize temperatures are particularly in demand here. For sandwich elements, these properties have the advantage that the core and outer layers remain firmly bonded together despite the loads acting on them.

Solvent-free adhesives for bonding large areas

Both contact adhesives and water-based dispersions are suitable for bonding large surfaces that require immediate initial adhesion. Compared to solvent-based adhesives, dispersions are significantly less harmful to the environment. They also pose fewer health risks during processing. Solvent-based adhesives also achieve significantly faster initial strength than dispersions.
