The new products are suitable for high-resolution fiber optic temperature and strain measurement. They are characterized by an extremely high spatial resolution.

Polytec now has the new ODiSI 7000 system family in its range for the fiber optic-based measurement of temperature and strain profiles. The fiber optic interrogator from US manufacturer Luna Innovations differs from fiber Bragg-based systems due to its extremely high spatial resolution of less than one millimeter. With measuring distances of up to 50 meters, up to 76,000 measuring points are available in a single, inexpensive standard optical fiber.

Measurements possible in a wide temperature range

The temperature measuring range covers -40 to +300 degrees Celsius. With special fibers, even temperatures from the cryogenic range up to approx. +600 degrees Celsius can be measured. In strain measurement, +/- 12,000 microstrains are possible. The measurement resolution is 0.1 degrees Celsius or +/- 1 microstrain.

System can be flexibly expanded

The new system is based on the ODiSI 6 series and is characterized, among other things, by its flexible expandability to up to 8 channels. The readout device is designed for industrial use, now has significantly more robust connectors and is supplied with 50 meters of cable between the fibre sensor and interrogator. The modular design enables a high-speed option for readout rates of up to 250 Hertz.
