Plasmatreat GmbH, a specialist in atmospheric plasma technology for surface pretreatment, is exhibiting for the first time at Fensterbau Frontale in Nuremberg.

In the manufacture of window profiles, different materials such as PVC, polypropylene, wood-plastic composites, or aluminum must be securely bonded together. At the same time, the requirements for process reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness are increasing. Traditional pretreatments such as wet chemical processes or primers are increasingly reaching their limits—for example, due to emissions, solvents, drying times, or regulatory requirements.

Compressed air and electrical energy as a basis

Openair plasma technology works on the basis of compressed air and electrical energy. Atmospheric plasma treatment cleans and activates surfaces inline and without chemicals. Organic contaminants are removed, the surface energy is specifically increased, and wettability is improved. This allows films, paints, and adhesives to be applied with permanent adhesion even on low-energy substrates.

The process is dry, solvent-free, and can be flexibly integrated into existing extrusion and processing lines. It is suitable for profile coating, painting plastic and metal profiles, spacer profiles, and direct glazing, among other things. When bonding with 1K PU adhesives, activation takes place immediately before application, which enables reproducible adhesive strength.

RAL quality assurance can be achieved

The requirements of RAL quality assurance can be achieved by using suitable adhesives. Measurements as well as thermolysis and hydrolysis tests show adhesion values that are comparable to classic primer processes – with reduced process costs and without chemical consumables.

Plasmatreat will be demonstrating the technology live at Fensterbau Frontale. Visitors can watch the activation of various plastics on site and directly observe the increase in surface energy. The company's booth is located in Hall 3, Booth 150.
