To protect food in a package, much of the food packaging made of paper and cardboard is coated with polyethylene (PE) or aluminum. This makes the packaging difficult to recycle. Covestro's Decovery CQ 6010 barrier coating resin replaces these PE or aluminum layers in paper food packaging, making it recyclable.
The barrier layer resin consists of 37 percent plant-based traceable ingredients such as bark, castor and corn. This significantly reduces the packaging's carbon footprint compared to packaging made with virgin PE and conventional fossil-based coatings. It is also highly oil and grease repellent, making it suitable for a wide variety of food products.
