Metoba received the components for a new pump house by heavy transport. A 100-ton crane moved the concrete slabs, each of which weighing around eight tons, to the exact spot where the new fire protection system is to be built. "We are investing in the safety of our company and a good 100 employees," says Andreas Klette, Metoba, project manager for the construction of the new facility. At its Lüdenscheid site, Metoba uses various metals for surface coating and thus falls under the so-called Hazardous Incident Ordinance, which applies to companies using hazardous substances. The requirements of the building and property insurance companies are accordingly demanding.
Metoba is spending roughly two million euros on the construction and implementation of the plant. A water tank which is ten meters high with a volume of 850,000 liters has already been erected. The 35-square-meter pump house has since been built immediately adjacent to it. It will contain two fire pumps, which are to direct water precisely towards the fire in the case of an emergency. The projected sprinkler system will meet the most up-to-date technical standards. Klette explains: "The heads of the system are temperature-controlled and can thus precisely douse the source of the fire without putting the entire company under water."
