With the Heinrich Hertz Visiting Professorship, the KIT Freundeskreis und die Fördergesellschaft e.V. (KFG) and KIT honor once a year an outstanding personality from science, industry, culture, or politics for his or her achievements and contributions to research and society. This year, it is awarded to Dr. Joachim Nagel. The economist, who was born in Karlsruhe in 1966, was appointed President of the Deutsche Bundesbank by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in January 2022. Nagel completed his studies in economics in 1991 at what was then the University of Karlsruhe, now KIT, where he also earned his doctorate in 1997 after working as a research assistant at the Institute for Economic Policy and Research.
Dr. Nagel will give a lecture on the role of the Euro on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 5 p.m. in the Audimax at KIT's South Campus. The public lecture is entitled "Europe and its Euro - Fit for the Future?". Among other things, it will explore these questions: Where is Europe heading today? What role does the Euro play in this? And what does this mean for citizens, politicians and the central bank? Also on October 5, 2023, Nagel will lead the seminar "Economic Monitoring at Higher Frequency" for KIT students.
