PPG announced the completion of a Colorful Communities project in Weilimdorf. PPG employees transformed around 100 classrooms at the community school into an attractive learning and teaching environment. This sixth and largest project to date at Weilimdorf Community School brought together a total of 160 volunteers from five factories. The ingenious color concept came from a PPG employee: "It was very important to me to create an environment that supports learning, but of course also where the children and young people feel comfortable," says Frank Rakel, surface development specialist at PPG in Korntal-Münchingen. The newly created color coding system guides even those unfamiliar with the area safely through the school grounds.
Graffiti workshops for pupils
Not only the classrooms were given a new coat of paint, an outdoor classroom was also set up and the outside area was spruced up with graffiti. "We are thrilled that we were chosen as a project partner and that our 450 pupils were able to actively participate in the redesign process," says Headmaster Nikolaus Arndt. The campaign took place during school hours and was integrated into a project week in which the pupils were able to take part in graffiti workshops. The reopening with all those involved took place on September 20 with a tour and closing party.
17.5 million US dollars to social institutions
PPG and the PPG Foundation have set themselves the goal of making the communities in which PPG operates more diverse and colorful through their global social commitment. In 2023, PPG invested 17.5 million US dollars to support hundreds of social institutions in more than 40 countries.
