Winterthur Instruments began developing a solution for non-contact coating thickness measurement 10 years ago. The technology of the company, which has since been renamed Coatmaster, is now used at more than 1000 locations worldwide.

The two founders Andor Bariska and Prof. Dr. Nils A. Reinke are delighted about the tenth anniversary of their company. Ten years ago, they transferred the natural principle that thick layers feel warm and thin layers feel cold to technology. The human sense of touch was turned into a technical solution that can measure the layer thickness without contact - and with high precision and reliability.

The first prototype was developed in 2011 in cooperation with several industrial companies and universities. It is based on the ATO (Advanced Thermal Optics) process. Today, the company employs more than 30 people at three locations on an area of over a thousand square meters. It has also had a presence in Germany since 2017. With the Coatmaster Flex, the engineers developed a handheld measuring device, and with the Coatmaster 3D, a device for 3D coating thickness measurement.
