In an open letter to EU and federal politicians, nine leading business associations have called for the swift implementation of the promised reduction in bureaucracy. The reason for this is the failure of the so-called Omnibus I in the European Parliament - a legislative package to simplify reporting and due diligence obligations.
Reduction of bureaucratic burdens postponed
The signatories include BAVC, BDWi, BGA, Der Mittelstandsverbund, Gesamtmetall, Stiftung Familienunternehmen und Politik, VCI, VDMA and ZVEI. They criticize the lack of concrete progress as a "fatal signal to the European economy". The urgently awaited reduction in bureaucratic burdens is being postponed once again, although it had been promised at all political levels. The letter states that companies "finally need planning security, practicable rules and a reduction to the bare essentials - instead of further uncertainty".
Omnibus package aims to streamline reporting obligations
The Omnibus Package I is seen as an important step towards correcting the overregulation in sustainability reporting (CSRD) and the Supply Chain Directive (CSDDD). According to the associations, both requirements currently lead to disproportionately high costs, especially for medium-sized companies. The business organizations are calling on European legislators to quickly find a viable solution and send a clear signal of reliability and competitiveness in the next plenary session of the European Parliament. Without relief, the associations warn that the European economy will suffer lasting damage.
