With the expansion of its South African site, BASF is strengthening its ability to supply customers in East, West and Southern Africa. The dispersions are used in architectural coatings, construction products and the paper industry, among other applications.
Expansion of Production and Application Technology
In addition to the capacity increase, an application laboratory has been established at the site. It supports formulation development and enables closer technical collaboration with customers.
The Durban site is part of BASF’s dispersions network in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Regional production is intended to shorten delivery times and address market requirements more effectively.
Investment in Regional Supply
Through the expansion, BASF aims to improve security of supply and bring production capacity closer to its sales markets. As part of the project, equipment was modernized and additional reactor capacity installed.
The measure is part of a broader series of investments in dispersion production across the EMEA region.
60 Years of BASF in South Africa
In 2026, BASF marks 60 years of business operations in South Africa. The company operates its own dispersion production facility there and supplies customers in several African regions from Durban.
