BASF Coatings has announced an extended cooperation with Xiaomi. As part of a three-year initiative, the company will co-develop 100 new vehicle colors. According to the partners, the partnership is also intended to visually reinterpret the topic of smart mobility and focus more strongly on individual design.
Partnership has existed since 2023
BASF Coatings has been supplying Xiaomi with complete solutions for vehicle coatings since 2023 and supports the projects from research to series production. The service package includes all layers of the paint structure - from electrocoating, primer and basecoat to clearcoat.
New colors with technical depth
The first jointly developed colors include Velocity Red, Dawn Pink (matt), Nightfall Rose, Buttercup Yellow and Amethyst Purple. The latter uses a two-coat clearcoat technology from BASF Coatings that creates a crystal-like gloss effect.
- Velocity Red: Clear coat with 20 % higher color saturation
- Dawn Pink (Matt): Matt lacquer with a diffuse, textured surface
- Nightfall Rose: Effect lacquer with pearlescent and aluminum pigments
- Buttercup Yellow: Three-layer structure for a particularly intense color effect
- Amethyst Purple: ProGloss 2K/Plus 2K two-coat clear lacquer system with deep gloss effect
These colors are used in the Xiaomi models SU7 and YU7. The paint structure includes CathoGuard 800 (electrocoat), SecuBloc (primer), ColorBrite (water-based basecoat) and ProGloss (clearcoat).
