BASF Coatings' Color Report for Automotive OEM Coatings is based on global production and painting data from car manufacturers and supplements the annual trend forecast "Automotive Color Trends." The evaluation for 2025 shows a clear change in color distribution. Green is the fastest-growing chromatic color worldwide and has reached a place among the three most popular colors for the first time. Blue and red continue to lose market share, with red now accounting for only around three percent of the total market. Among achromatic colors, gray is growing by two percentage points. White is declining slightly, while black remains stable. The share of solid colors is falling overall to 18 percent.
EMEA: Green gains ground, silver loses
The trends vary from region to region: In the EMEA region, the trend toward green continues. The color overtakes red, while silver continues to lose importance. Black and gray maintain their position among achromatic colors, while white declines slightly.
America: More color in the market
In North and South America, the proportion of chromatic colors is increasing by almost two percentage points. Green is gaining ground, as are shades such as beige, brown, and violet. Gray remains above the 2023 level, silver is increasing slightly, and white continues to lose ground.
Asia-Pacific: Gray grows, green differentiates
Achromatic colors continue to dominate in the Asia-Pacific region. Gray is recording a significant increase, while white is declining. Among the chromatic colors, green continues to gain market share, while blue is losing slightly.
