Automated application is becoming increasingly common in the painting trade. In order to evaluate new technologies at an early stage, Austrian paint and varnish manufacturer Adler tested a painting robot under real conditions at its paint factory in Schwaz, Tyrol. The aim was to test the interaction between robotics and wall paints in practical use.
Automated coating of large surfaces
A painting robot from ConBotics was used, which coats wall surfaces independently after scanning the premises. Equipped with Aviva Europlus White wall paint, the system worked with an airless spray arm and applied an even coat of paint. The robot automatically recognized window and door openings and deliberately left these out.
Supplement for the painting trade
The experts at Adler have given the test a positive assessment. The painting robot can be a useful addition to traditional application methods, especially for large areas. Adler sees the use of such systems as an opportunity to reduce physically demanding work and increase the efficiency of coating work.
