The hydrophilic polymer from a start-up is sprayed onto plastics and painted metals in a dissolved form. It permanently protects them from bacterial and biofilm adhesion. The coating process takes just a few minutes and can be used on medical devices and furniture as well as on touchscreens and light switches.

The layer is only a few nanometers thin. It consists of a water-soluble powder and can be sprayed onto objects made of plastic or metal. However, its effect is great: the hydrophilic powder keeps bacteria and viruses away without being toxic. It adheres permanently even to heavily used surfaces such as door handles or light switches without altering their surface.
