The energy demand of electrochemical processes such as electroplating is high. One third of the energy requirements of an electroplating operation can be attributed to electrical process energy. In times of high electricity and gas prices, these costs are particularly significant. Many manufacturers are considering plant optimization to maintain the economic viability of their business in a difficult environment. Rectifiers offer the greatest leverage in optimizing a galvanic plant. These components convert the high voltage from the power grid into voltage and current levels suitable for the process. Unfortunately, however, the efficiency of older generations of rectifiers is often quite low.
More modern rectifiers, such as those offered by the Munk company, have an efficiency that is around four percent higher, resulting in savings of up to 1.2 kW per hour at an output power of 24 kW, 16 V and 1500 A. For several years now, BAFA (German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control) has been promoting investment in high-efficiency rectifiers. Under the heading of energy efficiency, there are five funding modules that can be used for federal funding of projects for measures in the field of energy and resource efficiency. In addition to high-efficiency rectifiers, Munk offers expert consulting services to improve the profitability and sustainability of electroplating companies.
