10,000 euros were raised from a collection of discarded cell phones, smartphones and laptops at Dürr, in which numerous employees also took part.The collection campaign took place at all major Dürr locations in Germany. Employees were able to hand in disused private cell phones and smartphones there. "I am delighted that so many employees took part in the collection campaign and made the donation to the Hacker School possible," says Dr. Jochen Weyrauch, CEO of Dürr AG.
Courses for girls and children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds
The donation was made to the Hacker School in Hamburg. The non-profit school runs free programming courses for young people throughout Germany. Some formats are aimed specifically at girls and children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
Unusable items remain in the economic cycle
Dürr also donated laptops that were no longer in use for safety reasons. The old devices that were still in working order were refurbished by a service provider and resold, while unsaleable devices were professionally recycled. In this way, the raw materials they contain remain in the economic cycle. This is particularly important for metals such as gold, cobalt, lithium, platinum and rare earths, as their extraction places a heavy burden on people and the environment.
Lack of well-trained IT talent
The programming courses help to strengthen the digital education of children and young people and get them interested in IT professions. Given the shortage of skilled workers, promoting young talent in this area is particularly important. In the Dürr Group, too, we are dependent on well-trained IT talent in order to develop innovative solutions for our customers and make our company fit for the future.
Dürr donates to inclusive training project
The Hacker School is the second project that the Dürr Group has supported with the proceeds from a fundraising campaign. In December 2023, the company donated € 13,000 to an inclusive training project run by Diakonie Stetten.
