Dürr boss Weyrauch talks to CDU chairman about reforms

With one million employees, mechanical engineering is Germany's largest industrial employer. In order for the industry to maintain its leading position worldwide, relief and reforms are needed at national and European level. Manuel Hagel, Chairman of the CDU in Baden-Württemberg, and Dürr CEO Dr. Jochen Weyrauch discussed what is needed at the company's headquarters in Bietigheim-Bissingen.

Calls for improved framework conditions

Dürr CEO Weyrauch emphasized the individual responsibility of mechanical engineering companies for their competitiveness, but called for improved framework conditions. Specifically, he mentioned the reduction of bureaucracy, investment in infrastructure, lower energy prices, better employment opportunities for skilled workers from abroad and fewer rather than more reporting obligations for companies.

Getting into the groove

CDU state leader Manuel Hagel was impressed by Dürr's achievements. With a view to the weak growth of the German economy, Hagel said: "If we want to maintain and increase prosperity, we need to get into gear now to get out of the recession. Above all, we need significantly less self-preoccupation with freedom of information laws, requests for information, liability rules or the right to sue associations and instead more trust in people's creative power and more courage for entrepreneurial freedom. And we need reliable framework conditions in the long term, so that investing in the country and creating good jobs like Dürr's is worthwhile."

Sustainable transformation of the economy

Dürr is currently investing in the two Group subsidiaries HOMAG and Benz in Baden-Württemberg and is committed to a sustainable transformation of the economy: "Sustainability is not only part of our responsibility, but also an opportunity," says Weyrauch. The company develops energy-efficient machines and systems that help customers achieve climate-friendly production processes. For example, Dürr builds electrified paint shops that require 70% less energy and operate_CO2-free.
