Dürr directs an appeal at member of the German Bundestag

EU taxonomy, the Supply Chain Duty of Care Act and extensive sustainability reporting requirements - many new legal regulations are currently keeping companies busy. Dr. Sandra Detzer, member of the Bundestag and economic policy spokesperson for the Green Party, visited the headquarters of mechanical and plant engineering company Dürr in Bietigheim-Bissingen together with Tayfun Tok, member of the state parliament. During the visit, Dr. Hannes Schmüser, Head of the Dürr Group's Clean Technology Systems division, addressed the topic of reducing bureaucracy.

The cost of the Supply Chain Obligations Act

"The increasing regulation in recent years is presenting companies with ever greater challenges. The immense increase in bureaucracy is detrimental to the actual concerns," says Dr. Hannes Schmüser. Politicians should create good framework conditions for all companies instead of subsidizing individual sectors. Funding programs should be predictable and not end abruptly, as was the case with electric vehicles. Dr. Hannes Schmüser cited the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act as an example of the additional effort required for reporting. "The goal of avoiding human rights violations in the supply chain, among other things, is absolutely right, but the way to achieve it is problematic."

Detzer pleads for rules-based global trade

Dr. Sandra Detzer expressed her thanks for the frank words and the good exchange. "The world of a rules-based trade order, as we have known it for decades, is changing rapidly. As a strong exporting nation, Germany has an interest in preventing subsidy races and strengthening rules-based global trade. This is what we are working towards in the German government. Nevertheless, we must not close our eyes to reality: Geopolitics is becoming increasingly intertwined with global economic policy. We need to find an answer to this - together with companies." European regulation such as the Supply Chain Duty of Care Act makes sense, according to Detzer. "Companies like Dürr need the right framework conditions to ensure that their business models are not threatened by the unfair practices of others. The framework conditions are best set at European level. Low-cost implementation is a key objective that we clearly need to address even more," said the MP.

Own power generation expanded

Another topic was the Dürr Group's climate protection activities. The mechanical and plant engineering sector is directly responsible for around 1% of global CO₂e emissions (CO₂ equivalents), but has an influence on about 70% of the CO₂e emissions caused in other industrial sectors. Sustainable machinery and equipment for resource- and energy-saving manufacturing processes, such as those offered by the Dürr Group to its customers, are an important lever in this respect. Dürr has also switched to green electricity from 100% renewable energy sources at all its locations. The conversion to energy-efficient building technology is continuing.
