With the new laboratory, the manufacturer is strengthening its development capacities for water-based basecoats at its European automotive site in Würzburg. The Lean Lab concept is currently being rolled out at other locations worldwide and tailored to local requirements. It is based on a clear functional separation:
- Process lab for all wet work
- Product lab for customer-centric developments and customizations
- Laboratory services for the provision and management of raw and operating materials
Increased efficiency through material flow and centralized logistics
The close proximity to production enables close coordination between development and production. According to BASF, the optimized material flow with a direct logistics connection leads to annual savings of around 25.1 tons of CO₂ emissions. Consumption-based material supply is intended to further improve resource utilization.
IT infrastructure and digital laboratory management
All workstations are ergonomically designed and equipped with modern IT. All processes are recorded digitally. An RFID-based storage system and customized laboratory software support automated data recording as well as digital procurement and warehouse management. In addition, a working café offers space for exchange and team-oriented work.
