ZVO Master's scholarship holder Andreas Winter has successfully defended his project work "Investigation of the formation and rearrangement of chromium(III) complexes in a commercial electrolyte" in the electrochemistry and electroplating course at the TU Ilmenau.
DigiChrom BMBF project
The work was embedded in the BMBF-funded DigiChrom project, in which the ECG department is investigating process-structure-property relationships in electroplated chromium deposition. Andreas Winter used in-situ microgravimetry to investigate the deposition rate and current yield of a commercial chromium(III) electrolyte in various ageing states. He used potentiometric titration to characterize the complexes as a function of the bath state and explained his results using a mathematical model.
Relevance for practice
His results make a valuable contribution to a better understanding of the thermodynamics and kinetics of complex formation in chromium(III) electrolytes and are highly relevant for technical applications.
