ZVO doctoral seminar on electrochemistry and electroplating technology

The doctoral seminar of the Department of Electrochemistry and Electroplating at TU Ilmenau took place after a long break on May 19 and 20, 2022 as a face-to-face meeting. The host was Atotech in Berlin.

The opening lecture was given by Prof. Andreas Bund, Head of the Department of Electrochemistry and Electroplating at Ilmenau University of Technology. He presented the fundamentals and state of the art of redox flow battery systems and future applications of the technology in power grids and stationary applications. Martin Leimbach then reported on his path to a doctorate at the Technical University of Ilmenau. The topic of his dissertation is the characterization of chromium deposition from trivalent electrolytes. Mirko Ante reported on his experiences entering industry with an energy engineering background. He is currently working on the optimization of large-scale hydrogen storage facilities.

The second day of the event was dedicated to the current research topics of the PhD students. Lukas Grohmann presented an update on his work on the interdiffusion of gold and nickel that occurs during the fabrication of glass feedthroughs for wire contacts in electronic devices and batteries. Ivan Genov gave an introduction to his PhD topic on "anode-free" rechargeable lithium metal batteries and how to improve their performance. Gisella Lucero presented her work on electrochemical detection of nitrite ions with PEDOT films and PdAu/PEDOT composites. The last talk was given by Lars Lösing on the deposition of tin from electrolytes with neutral pH for applications in electronics.
