Wacker Polymers invested over USD 100 million in its Chinese plant in Nanjing. After just under three years of construction, twice the volume of dispersions can be produced there.

Wacker, a manufacturer of dispersions and dispersible polymer powders based on vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymers, has now completed capacity expansion at its plant in Nanjing, China. With an investment of more than 100 million USD, the production capacity of VAE-based dispersions and dispersible polymer powders has thus been more than doubled. The new equipment, including a modern dispersion reactor and spray dryer features a powerful monitoring system and efficient process control. The inauguration event was attended by government representatives, customers and distributors.

The expansion will enable Wacker to meet the Chinese construction industry's growing demand for binders and strengthen its position in this sector. "With a share of around 20 percent, China is the world's largest sales market in the construction sector," says CEO Christian Hartel. Thanks to its novel dispersion polymerization process and monitoring system, the new dispersion reactor is one of the most advanced plants in the industry. The same applies to the new spray dryer for dispersion powder production. The plant uses efficient dryer technology. The new plants are the largest of their kind in the world. Nanjing is one of four production sites operated by the Wacker Polymers Business Unit worldwide.
