Large-area delamination of the coating occurred in anodized aluminum profiles. DFO's task was to find out the cause of this. In general, it is important in damage analysis to approach the investigation systematically and to get to the bottom of the cause step by step.
At the beginning of the investigation, it is above all very important to know all the production steps of the affected components. In this case, the aluminum profiles were anodized, then blasted and cleaned. Before coating with a 2K polyurethane primer, an activator was applied to improve adhesion. The activator was originally developed to improve the adhesion of glass coatings, but in preliminary tests it also showed good results on the aluminum profiles.
