According to VDMA Managing Director Thilo Brodtmann, the dispute over the Climate Protection Act has ended with the right compromise: The focus is now on the overall development of emissions.

VDMA Managing Director Thilo Brodtmann issued the following statement in a recent VDMA press release on the agreement reached by the traffic light coalition on a reform of the Climate Protection Act:

The dispute over the Climate Protection Act has ended with the right compromise. The previous rigid sector targets have failed due to a lack of efficiency. Concentrating on the overall development of emissions is a sensible step towards achieving the ambitious and still valid climate targets.

However, the upcoming European emissions trading scheme for buildings and transport shows that no sector is completely exempt from responsibility. Industry needs clear and, above all, reliable climate policy guidelines in order to make the necessary investments. We continue to believe that emissions trading is the key instrument.

The solar package brings further relief and less bureaucracy to the expansion of renewable energies. The fact that it does not provide a clear impetus for domestic production is unsatisfactory in the competition between locations.
