Dr. Urs Herding succeeds Udo Jung, CEO of the Trox Group, who has led the VDMA General Air Technology Association since 2021. Herding is CEO of Herding Filtertechnik and was previously Deputy Chairman of the association.
Fighting the flood of bureaucracy
Dr. Herding sees bureaucracy and reporting obligations as key tasks. "In international competition, speed in innovation is what counts above all. Companies also need the freedom to assert themselves globally - not paralyzing structures. When it comes to competitiveness, many are calling for state subsidies, but what really helps us move forward is the reduction of bureaucracy," he said.
Companies severely hampered by bureaucracy
A new study by the VDMA shows that 6.3 percent of annual turnover in smaller companies is accounted for by bureaucracy - "a real brake on growth and progress", according to Dr. Herding. However, the coalition agreement with its promise of a noticeable reduction in bureaucracy and the EU omnibus procedures offer cautious hope for change. Dr. Herding: "My goal is to turn these opportunities into reality. As a member of the Executive Board of the VDMA's General Air Technology Association, I will work in the coming years to ensure that we not only discuss these reforms in and with politicians, but also insist on their implementation."
