Information Sheet No. 3 has just been published, which has been thoroughly revised by the Working Group on Fire Protection and Smoke Extraction. It is part of the VDMA series "Safety in buildings and infrastructure facilities". The publication is aimed at building operators and building users, particularly for buildings of a special type or use. These include, for example, places of assembly, hospitals, retirement and nursing homes, airports, train stations, schools, sports facilities, and shopping centers.
Smoke takes away visibility and contains toxic pyrolysis products that have a choking effect, and respiratory burns can also occur. "When there is a fire in buildings, every second counts to get people who are there to safety," says Michael Buschmann, past chair of the Fire Protection and Smoke Exhaustion Working Group. "Information Sheet 3 is a must for anyone concerned with the topic of self-rescue of persons." All information in the VDMA information sheet is based on safety research studies and recommendations from fire departments.
