Without properly dimensioned cooling, overheating can lead to performance losses, system downtimes and even hardware failures. In addition, permanently high temperatures would shorten the service life of electronic components. In this environment, cooling systems help to prevent overheating and improve overall energy efficiency. Heat pipes, vapour chambers, liquid cooling or cold plates also minimize the dependence on additional cooling methods such as fans or air conditioning systems and offer more sustainable and cost-effective thermal management.
Vacuum pump removes warm vapors and particles
"With the growing demand for high-performance computing, the need for intelligent and efficient cooling has never been greater," says Ranga Venugopalan, Senior Market Sector Manager at Edwards Vacuum. The manufacturer's vacuum pumps support heat pipe cooling systems that not only ensure their safe operation, but also reduce energy consumption and dependence on traditional cooling infrastructure, according to the supplier.
At the heart of these innovations is the Edwards GV80 dry vacuum pump, an oil-free claw pump proven for the removal of electronic heat. It is designed to remove vapors and particulates with precision and is part of a cooling system that includes heat pipes, vapor chambers, liquid cooling and intelligent speed control.
The system maintains a constant temperature in its application areas. The performance is stabilized at a high vacuum level and the service life of the components is extended, especially in large servers or data centers.
Vacuum systems required for high-performance cooling
For applications that require deep evacuation prior to liquid supply, Edwards offers the E2M40 and E2M80 rotary vane pumps. They generate vacuum conditions down to 10-2 mbar and make liquid-based cooling processes efficient.
The range is complemented by the EXS dry screw vacuum pump, which, according to the manufacturer, is known for its low maintenance requirements and operating efficiency. It supports extensive cooling with minimal energy and fluid consumption.
Tim McGrath, Product Marketing Manager at Edwards, explains the need for specialized vacuum pumps for cooling: "Behind every high-performance cooling system is a reliable vacuum system." The wet and dry vacuum pumps help to support stable operation, prevent overheating and keep electronics running cooler, longer and more efficiently.
