Rembrandtin has developed a coating that extends the service life of damaged photovoltaic modules. The company was awarded the ÖGUT Environmental Prize 2021 for this achievement.

The Austrian Society for Environment and Technology (ÖGUT) regularly honors the best sustainability projects with its Environmental Award. This year, the main prize in the category "With research and innovation to the circular economy" went to Rembrandtin Coatings GmbH. It made a significant contribution to increasing confidence in PV technology with its special coatings for photovoltaic backsheet films, the jury said.

Polymer photovoltaic (PV) backsheet films are designed to protect photoelectrically active components of photovoltaic modules from environmental influences. Rembrandtin has developed a special coating system consisting of primer and topcoat that restores damaged electrical insulation properties of backsheets. It prevents further growth of near-surface microcracks and repairs deep backsheet cracks. This significantly increases the service life of solar modules.
