With the UFR, Thaletec is introducing a four-blade agitator designed to mix even small residual quantities. The new model is designed to combine high axial flow rate, low shear, and the ability to be retrofitted into existing enameled vessels.

Thaletec has introduced the UFR (UltraFlowResidual), a new enamel-coated four-blade agitator that adds a residual-volume function to the existing UltraFlow agitation technology. The design is based on the patented Thaletec UFT design and is engineered to ensure uniform mixing not only at normal fill levels but also during the filling and emptying of a vessel.

At the heart of the new design are two additional residual-volume blades. They complement the high axial pumping capacity of UltraFlow technology and are intended to ensure that even the smallest amounts of product in the vessel are captured and agitated. The agitator is thus suited for applications where process reliability and product quality are critical right down to the last residual quantity.

Flow and Energy Input

According to the agitator’s geometric specifications, the blades generate uniform axial flow across the entire agitator diameter. Compared to conventional axial-flow agitators such as TAF or PBT, UltraFlow technology achieves a volumetric flow rate that is approximately 33% higher at the same power input. At the same time, the mixing process is designed to minimize shear stress, which is particularly important for sensitive products and processes.

The technology is also noted for its short, defined mixing times and low power input. This is particularly relevant where reproducible mixing conditions are required and products must not be subjected to high shear forces.

Use in Enameled Mixing Vessels

The UFR agitator is available for enameled mixing vessels with a nominal volume ranging from 630 to 40,000 liters. Thaletec cites homogenization, suspension, and shear-sensitive processes such as crystallization as typical applications. The increased flow velocity near the bottom also improves heat transfer in this area, which can offer additional benefits for thermally controlled processes.

The agitator is designed for multipurpose applications in enameled vessels. Of particular interest to operators of existing plants is the option for retrofitting: The UFR can also be installed in existing enameled vessels. This allows the residual mixing function to be integrated into existing process environments without having to completely replace the vessel.

With the new UFR, Thaletec is expanding its portfolio to include a solution for applications that require a combination of high mixing performance, gentle product handling, and reliable mixing—even with small fill volumes.
