Three new platinum alloy electrolytes from Umicore

The new Platuna electrolytes have no yellow tint and shine flawlessly white. Umicore offers them in three variants for different applications.

No yellow cast, higher gloss: The new platinum electrolytes are significantly more appealing than conventional electrolytes, reports Umicore. They are also easier to handle and gentler on the coated material. The deposition rate is independent of the current strength, enabling uniform coating thickness distribution and thus higher coating quality.

The electrolytes are available in three versions. The strongly acidic Platuna PT platinum electrolyte is used to deposit smooth, crack-free platinum coatings up to a layer thickness of 5 μm and is suitable for decorative applications as well as for medical technology and electrolyzers. With the strongly acidic alloy electrolyte Platuna-Alloy RH (80 % Pt, 20 % Rh), smooth, bright and crack-free platinum-rhodium coatings can be deposited up to a layer thickness of 0.5 μm. Equally bright platinum-ruthenium coatings up to a thickness of 0.5 μm can be deposited with the strongly acidic alloy electrolyte Platuna-Alloy RU (80 % Pt, 20 % Ru).
