Werner Ruhl and Willi Perschbacher, the two founders of Ruhl & Co. GmbH, passed away in January 2026. Their work shaped the development of today's B+T Group in the field of surface technology.

The B+T Group bids farewell to its founders Werner Ruhl and Willi Perschbacher, who passed away last month at the age of 90. In 1976, the two laid the foundation for Ruhl & Co. GmbH and the subsequent group of companies with the acquisition of a small electroplating plant in Cölbe.

Ruhl and Perschbacher had already met at the age of 14 during their training. Their early connection developed into a decades-long partnership characterized by mutual trust and entrepreneurial continuity.

Werner Ruhl, born in January 1935 in Gießen, was guided in his actions by long-term stability and responsibility. He was concerned with building a solid foundation for future generations – both in business and in his private life.

Willi Perschbacher, born in April 1935 in Hungen, trained as an electroplater and became an expert in electroplating and chemical engineering. After passing his master craftsman's examination in 1961, he also made a name for himself as a chemical manufacturer. Within the founding duo, he took on responsibility for the technical and strategic development of the company.

Building a company in surface technology

Starting with a company with six employees, the business continued to grow under their leadership. After around 20 years, the location was moved to Wetzlar. There, the company management invested in modern equipment, analytics, and quality assurance, as well as in the expansion of the production areas.

The focus was on technological developments, process reliability, and quality standards. Even in their advanced age, both founders continued to follow current topics such as automation and alternative energies with interest and remained closely associated with the company.

With the passing of Werner Ruhl and Willi Perschbacher, the B+T Group has lost two personalities who shaped the development of the company and regional surface technology for decades. Their life's work lives on in the company's current structures, processes, and employees.
