"Together with JX Advanced Metals, we see enormous growth potential in the field of atomic layer deposition (ALD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for the next generation of semiconductors," says Kazuhiko Iida, Chairman of the Taniobis Group. By expanding its capacities in Goslar, the company aims to strengthen its market position and respond flexibly to requirements. "We see great potential in the chloride sector in particular - both for JX and for Taniobis," explains Iida.
Increasing demand for high-purity qualities
The production facilities at the Laufenburg site focus on tantalum and niobium chloride of all grades as well as standard grades from the tungsten- and molybdenum-based portfolio. According to Taniobis, optimizations are planned here. "It was clear to us early on that the demand for high-purity grades would steadily expand to other elements. Therefore, in addition to optimizing the Laufenburg facilities, we also had to build a new testing and production facility at our site in Goslar," says Dr. Ole Brettschneider, Head of Business Development.
The new chloride plant in Goslar will enable the development of new chloride compounds under the Amptertec brand name and the improvement of existing products. Taniobis cites microprocessors and memory chips for applications in the field of artificial intelligence as market drivers - they require constant improvements in speed and energy efficiency. In the new chip generations, chip developers rely on deposition processes based on high-purity molybdenum and tungsten chlorides, the production of which Taniobis is developing and testing at its plant in Goslar.
Developing specialties based on tungsten and molybdenum
The operation of the plant in Goslar is initially focused on the development of specialty products in the tungsten and molybdenum portfolio. It also includes improvements to existing product qualities and processes as well as customer-driven new developments. Later on, it should also be possible to cover peaks in demand for standard qualities, for which the necessary qualification processes must be started at an early stage.
